Like a hot knife through butter (2017)
Brick, plinth, custom-cut glass
A brick-sized square cut-out is removed from a windowpane. Sitting outside the window, at the same height as the cut-out, is a brick resting on a plinth. From the inside, the audience can see the inset of the brick within the cut-out, and from the outside, the audience can see a brick about to pass flawlessly through the window. The work challenges the potential narrative of the brick (and window), while also highlighting a tension through the known act of smashing a window (with a brick). What/where is the brick’s final resting place?
